PET & SPECT Tungsten Alloy Syringe Shield
Tungsten Heavy Metal Syringe Shielding
Tungsten heavy metal offers a notably higher specific weight compared to lead, resulting in approximately 60% better shielding performance for syringes. This improvement is achieved through the complete integration of the lead window, making it nearly unbreakable, with a clip-lock mechanism that requires no screws.
To comply with the principles of radiation protection, any radiation exposure has to be kept as low as possible, taking into account the technical and organizational possibilities. Syringe shielding plays a vital role in achieving this goal, significantly reducing radiation exposure during radiopharmaceutical applications, particularly to the hands, without incurring high expenses.
Custom Machining
We offer custom machining to meet your specific requirements and preferences. Whether you need modifications for compatibility with unique syringe types or specialized applications, our team can tailor the shielding per your specifications and technical drawings. We ensure precision and accuracy in every custom product we manufacture. This includes adjustments for different PET nuclides or variations in syringe dimensions, guaranteeing optimal performance and compatibility with your equipment.
For standard radiation protection equipment of a hot cell, we can deliver the following equipment:
- Laboratory workbench: The workbench is built with a robust steel frame designed to support substantial weights, capable of handling loads up to 850 kg/m², such as lead shielding, Tc-generators, ect. Compliant with safety standards for working with unsealed radioactive materials, the stainless steel table plate features an 8 mm raised profile edge on all sides, providing added containment and security.
- Lead shielding: For body protection, a U-formed or completely closed lead castle is built up on the workbench. Protected by the syringes shielding, e.g. radiopharmaceuticals can be prepared and drawn up in this way. The lead shielding consists of lead components according to DIN 25407, e.g. with 50 mm shielding capacity. The lead shielding can be expanded by a lead glass window to be mounted.
- Safe: The safe ensures secure, access-controlled storage for radiopharmaceuticals and check/test sources, providing shielding for safety. Safes are available in various sizes and with several capacities for syringe shielding. Syringe shielding options include both cupboard and sliding safe configurations.
- Shielded container for radioactive waste: Radioactive waste must be collected separately for proper disposal. To protect personnel, the waste collection container must be appropriately shielded.
- Syringe shielding carrying case: To facilitate the transportation of syringes containing radiopharmaceuticals, options are available in various sizes and with several shielding capacities (3 mm or 6 mm Pb).
- Warning plates: To designate the control area, made from either a stamped aluminum plate or plastic material measuring 150 x 200 mm. Captioned “Control Area Radioactive” accompanied by a radiation warning symbol.
